Fictionkin isn’t just about “That’s Me!”
This is an issue that bothers me greatly.
I’ve seen lots of shit going around about fictionkin (and just otherkin in general) lately that all you need to feel for a kintype is to look at it and think “that’s me!”
…That doesn’t prove anything.
Yes, before realizing you are kin. you will feel a “that’s me” feeling, but it gets more intense than that. It’s deep emotion, memory, and other strange feelings.
…But you could look at ANYTHING and say “that’s me”, if you looked hard enough for a “connection.”
I look at A LOT of things and feel “that’s me.” Like, I can relate to that, or I feel “same, bro, same”, but they aren’t my kintypes. These are totally normal feelings. It’s called relating to a character. Everyone experiences it.
With my kintypes, yeah, I do feel “that’s me” whenever I see my kinselves. But what defines these kintypes are strange feelings that aren’t normal when exposed to fiction. Strong emotions, such as nostalgia, rage, and distraught. Missing these characters you’ve never met. Constant shifting. Visions, or vivid memories. Repetitive dreams. Strange things from my childhood. Stuff like that is what defines a kintype.
Fictionkin is a set of unusual and deep experiences. Thinking “same” or “that’s me” when you see a relatable character is normal.
