I just want to specify something here, okay? Okay.

When I talk about copingkin, I am not talking about individuals who are otherkin and have somehow used being otherkin as part of a coping mechanism, or individuals who believe their internal non-human identity is actually an unconscious coping mechanism, created for whatever reason. Psychological otherkin are an active part of this community and I am in no way speaking about them.

I am speaking about the individuals who consciously, knowingly create a coping mechanism that revolves around identifying as (or with, in some of the cases I’ve seen) something non-human and then call themselves otherkin because of it. That is who I am referring to, as I do not support someone altering the definition of otherkin so drastically to fit their own ends, when they could just as well create that coping mechanism without claiming themselves to be kin.
