Why should spirituality matter?

dragonade4kin:

I never understood the sudden break from understanding that otherkin was originally a spiritual phenomenon. The idea of therians and anthropomorphic animals is older than written history, and people usually think of that in a religious or spiritual context.

When we think of what otherkin is today, an umbrella term for otherkin (as mythical nonhumans), therians, and fictionkin, I can’t help but wonder why the collective interest in spirituality has dropped. I see laments of otherkin missing their powers or their homes, and being unable to fly or breathe underwater.

These people have likely ignored the idea of astral travel or lucid dreaming, or perhaps became discouraged when there wasn’t an immediate result. Is instant gratification the real evil behind the decline of the otherkin community?

In your other life, you probably couldn’t fly on day one. You were probably a poor swimmer, and needed help controlling your buoyancy. Just like humans can’t walk or talk when they’re born, and most baby animals can’t see or hunt for themselves immediately, astral travel and, going further, magic of any sort here, take practice.

You can learn amazing things in a human body that can parallel your skills from former lifetimes. Parkour, martial arts, and break dancing are amazing feats that can be learned with time, practice, and hard work. Spiritual practices are no different, and in the days of technology, people seem to forget they can learn to play music or do card tricks.

This isn’t just about spirituality, but astral travel is by and large the closest thing we can get to re-living our old lives. Pick up one thing at a time, and if it seems too hard, don’t be afraid to push yourself. Follow some spiritual blogs, read some books about basic magic. While the magic here isn’t what you’re probably used to, wouldn’t it feel great to have a sort of power most people don’t?

If you didn’t have magic, a meditation routine won’t hurt. In fact, it’ll do the opposite and helps with anxiety and other nasty things. If you didn’t have magic, why not learn it here and have something new and unique in this life?

Learn something new, Don’t be afraid to push your comfort zone. You’re on Earth in a human body, so make it the best human body it can be. There’s no point in sulking over something when you can learn to cook if your kintype can only make cereal.
