Hey, just popping in to comment on your ask about kin shifts. The term actually isn’t new at all. It’s been a therian term almost since the therian community began. It’s been adopted by other communities since there are similar experiences and a lack of terminology for them.

You’re very right. The term is only new as applied to fictionkin specifically.

there are certain characters and things i feel really strongly about and associate myself with, but i dont feel like these things are directly “me” or that they’re apart of me or are me etc, is there a word for this? would that just be stuff i really like? i feel kind of weird about saying its just stuff i like a lot, its more then that i think.

Your post on the fictionkin fictive difference made me wonder – what about fictives who are also fictionkin? As in, they remember past lives in the same way any fictionkin does, even though they have a main/current form similar to a fictionkin’s current life. But maybe that’s a soulbond thing? Since I always heard that fictives were specifically related to alters who are fictional, and soulbonds can come and go as they wish and aren’t necessarily a part of the host.

I won’t take a stance on whether alters can be fictionkin, as alters are specifically DID related and not something I am qualified to discuss.…
