so i am ethinically jewish and i am oppressed. a lot of people say that you can’t be fictionkin with kin outside of race unless you are oppressed? i have one kin that isn’t white and i feel really upset talking about it because i am white passing.

Your current ethnicity is absolutely and completely irrelevant to your past/kin ethnicity. If someone can be kin to an elf or a werewolf, why is it a stretch to be kin to another human race? I do not understand people who have a problem with this concept. (not accusing you, simply puzzled with the way people’s minds work)

THIS JUST IN! THE OTHERKIN COMMUNITY STANDS IN SOLIDARITY WITH RACHEL DOLEZAL!

In a word. No.

It isn’t racist, because its not something you chose. Its something you were. As long as you don’t do racist things and use your kin identity to excuse yourself for them, then you are not racist.

Lets imagine that someone is kin of a POC character.

Not racist

  • identifying as a POC character
  • talking about experiences you had in the past as that character in kin communities
  • eating foods or listening to music, etc that that remind you of when you were that character.
  • dressing in clothing traditional to that character in the privacy of your home, or in kin communities
  • etc

Racist

  • claiming to be a POC on official forms, or in casual conversation
  • talking about experiences you had as a POC in non kin communities
  • wearing clothing traditional to a POC character in public
  • intruding on POC spaces in current society
  • claiming to be a POC currently
  • claiming POC privileges such a ‘n-word’ privileges
