Kin PSA
Let’s say these were different people, who all identify as Fictionkin..
One is kin with Eren Jaeger. They think Eren is super cool and they feel very drawn to them and very deeply connected to them. They say they don’t think they are literally the character.
One is kin of Eridan Ampora. They share a lot of traits and experiences as Eridan, such as being anti-social, and feeling lonely often. They don’t feel any connections to Eridan’s actual experiences, just his personality.
One is kin of Sans the Skeleton. They like to act like Sans a lot, and often Roleplay as them. Over time they feel like they have become Sans.
One is kin of Lapis Lazulli. When they first saw themselves on screen, they felt a vague, familiar feeling. When Lapis was released from the mirror, they felt sudden waves of guilt and pain, and had to shut off the cartoon. That night they vividly dreamed of a familiar place, filled with familiar faces. They would soon realize that once, they were Lapis.
Only one of these is fictionkin, guys.
For refrence, the correct answer is Lapis.
Well, no. Just no. Stop invalidating kin. If somebody says they’re kin, they’re kin.
Well, no. Just no. Somebody can’t magically be kin just because they said so, because finding your kintypes takes a lot of introspection and time.
You can not just make yourself kin. You can not decide to be kin and magically make it true. Being kin is not a game or a toy.
Telling people they do not fit the established definition of kin is not gatekeeping/policing.
Telling people they can not be a certain kintype because its ‘problematic; is gatekeeping/policing.
