So, it’s been noted before that as the kin communities moved onto tumblr, the language to describe certain things has been left behind a bit. One of the main ones is something that’s confused me a lot, but I think I understand it now.
Namely, the primary/secondary/tertiary kintypes. Or a “this kintype is stronger, this one is lesser, etc” framing of one’s kintypes, if there are more than one.
Part of the environment on tumblr is a lack of connection to the wider communities and the words we’ve made to describe things, and I have to propose: in these instances, could people be talking about shifts and not have the word to describe that?
I’m going to copy past the definitions straight from The Therian Guide, as the concepts actually came from therian communities. Take these with a grain of salt for yourself, as they’re written to specify therians and not applicable in every way to others such as fictionkin, who aren’t always animals. It’s also not a rule that you must experience all of these. Terms like “Shamanic journey” also make me side-eye like fuck, since that’s not a term that can be applied very broadly to just anyone.
