Legitimate question for fickin
I’m really interesting in how fictionkin/fickin respond to information from the creators of the characters they’re kin with. Like, how do you guys feel about the creators? How do you feel about them when they disagree with your views on the characters? I guess that as someone who wants to create material that people will be able to interact with in a passionate way, I’m curious – what is your opinion on creators and their roles?

From my point of view, the author is the creator of the story as it exists in fiction. Their viewpoint is the lens that the story is viewed from in our world and it is a unique and particular viewpoint. The author is always ‘right’ about how their story went and how their characters would act.
We as kin exist beyond the scope of the author. We don’t owe them our existence as they didn’t really create us in any meaningful way, but I respect and value their perspective on the story and their ownership of the story as they told it.
Even if the way I remember things going in my world is different than what appeared in the author’s story, that doesn’t make the author wrong and me right. The author is ‘right’ in what they wrote and I am ‘right’ in what I experienced. They are two different things.
