Hi! I hope it’s OK to ask this (and that it hasn’t been asked before – if so, I apologize) but I’ve been wondering for a while now. When I’ve come across some of the blogs of fictionkin, they will have a page listing their kintypes and saying that others with the same kintype can’t follow them/talk to them/etc. Would you mind telling me why that is? (just curious)

Hey there. Its always okay to ask a question, and honestly, most of the questions I’m asked have been asked before (like this one).

The reason that some people ask others who have the same kintype as them not to follow them, is simply that it makes them uncomfortable. Some people feel ‘less real’ or ‘less valid’ in the face of doubles, whether they recognize that doubles are just as legitimate or not.

Generally the ‘don’t follow me if you have the same kintype’ thing applies to fictionkin who have a very specific personal identity rather than to otherkin who are one member of a particular species. I haven’t seen any wolfkin going ‘don’t follow me if you’re also wolfkin’.

I will be honest, I used to be much more annoyed with people who didn’t want doubles following them, but firstly, I’ve recognized that a lot of these ‘no doubles’ people have anxiety issues and actually worry that doubles are somehow MORE legitimate than they are, and thus make them feel fake, but also I’ve had some bad experiences with doubles too. Specifically every Vriska I’ve interacted with so far we haven’t really gotten along. I’m not the type of person to ban people from interacting with me, and I like to give everyone a chance, but if I were a more closed off person, I might say no doubles too.

And then of course some of the ‘no doubles’ people are just assholes. But some of every group is just assholes, so….
