Hi! I just found your blog and I really like it, and ts been super helpful for me. For the past two months I’ve been learning a lot about otherkin, specifically fictionkin and coming to terms with myself identifying as fictionkin. I’m 14 and have some super accepting friends who I feel like family with, but I have no clue how to go about telling them I’m fictionkin even though I want to and I’m ready to.. Any advice? Thank you for your time!

My advice, as it always is to this question, is that there is no need to share your identity as fictionkin with anyone who is not already friendly to, and familiar with the concept. Same with otherkin in general. In my opinion, outside of select cases, it sadly causes more trouble than its worth. Most people simply are not equipped to understand the phenomena, and will jump to the conclusion that you are rleplaying, or metally ill.

Likewise, being fictionkin is nothing like a gender presentation, or a sexual orientation. There’s no need for you to act ‘as kin’ in society, or to ‘be visible’. There is no part of your social identity that you’re denying, by not coming out as kin, since you wouldn’t be dressing as your kintype, or going by their name.

If you are planning on consistently dressing as your kintype, or going by their name I recommenced you…. re-evaluate that decision.
