On the race/kintype thing, what would you say about something like a white person identifying as, say, John or Jake? Since neither of them actually have confirmed races, BUT a lot of the fandom has non-white headcanons for them, it’s kind of a double-edged sword I guess.

actually the whole synpath deal was because synpath was coined around the time the whole race discourse made its appearance so everyone thought people were using synpath as an excuse to hide from “being racist”

if they’re talking about Peeta from The Hunger Games, he was white in the books too – although most of the other major characters were whitewashed, Peeta was not. But the films did choose to leave out the physical disability Peeta had from Book 2 on.

just letting you know, peeta isn’t a poc. idk if they ever state his race outright in the books, but it is left ambiguous with most signs pointing to him being white from what I saw in the books.

Fair enough. I never read or watched the Hunger Games, so I had no idea either way.

I hope this doesn’t cause more trouble for you…but have you noticed that one of those people in the hskin tag being the kin control or whatever is kin with Peeta? Y’know a canonically poc character who was whitewashed in the films? And the person who is kin with him is white? Idk man I just needed to share this somewhere because the hypocrisy is real.

I hadn’t noticed that, anon. That’s very interesting to note. Its sad, but sometimes people are hypocrites.

u kno, one of the most ridiculous thing I’ve heard in regards to the “it’s racist to have fictotypes outside ur race!!!” thing was that it is racist to have SYNPATHS outside your race.

Anon, some people seem to think it is impossible for people of one race to feel any kind of empathy for people of another race.…

Where’s the line between fictionkin and otherkin? For instance, if we define otherkin as “non-human soul” and fictionkin as “soul of a fictional character”, there’s still a ton of overlap. Dragons and elves are fictional, but elf/dragonkin are otherkin. Homestuck trolls are non-human, but they’re fictionkin. Yet, both of these could qualify for either label. How do you differentiate the two?

Its a very fuzzy line indeed, and someone can be both otherkin and fictionkin at the same time. For instance anyone who has a fictotype…

The youtube channel “this exists” did a video on fictionkin. I liked it, but I wanted to know your thoughts since I really dig reading other opinions.
