I awakened 6+ years ago and I hate my fandom. I hate the source material, I hate how huge and iconic it is, and I hate that I can’t embrace my kin identity without people thinking I’m doing it for attention or to boost my self-esteem. I’ve never seen another fictionkin express this- in fact, the bigger their fandoms are, the happier they seem. Am I doing something wrong?

No, you’re not doing anything wrong. I’m no fan of digimon. My close friends who are fictionkin don’t much like their source material either. Honestly, I find it really uncomfortable, nearing traumatic, to have anything to do with my ‘canon’.

Some people are more at ease with their canon than others, but on the whole, my sense is if you are completely comfortable with where you come from, you’re either some kind of zen master of acceptance, or perhaps need to examine your identity more fully.
