I want to repeat what I just said:

when you wave around this “kin should mean whatever a person wants it to! everyone should be included! don’t invalidate no matter what!!!” bullshit, you are hurting people. You can say it’s about positivity and love and safe spaces all you want, but you’re making it decidedly unsafe for real kin to talk about themselves here.

We’re ashamed to be associated with glorified roleplayers, people are attacking us increasingly because of this wishkin nonsense, and legitimate kin who want community and all the resources that entails don’t even know where to fucking look, because everyone claims to Know It All when they don’t know jack shit. And worst case scenario, some doofus tells them their identity is “wrong” and should be changed to suit tumblr identity politics that they made up. And if they don’t do so they’re evil racist ableist bastards who should die and repress themselves. Which is abusive, if you didn’t know.

Knock it the fuck off. Acknowledge your games for what they are, and if there’s still something calling you back, look into otherhearted and fictionhearted, because those are also communities that exist and not to be dismissed as “lesser”.

Reblogging for that last part. Otherkinity isn’t some sort of club or bandwagon that you can just join because you want to.

No-one is barring non-kin from joining Otherkin communities because they are curious or because they want to learn more about it. Just stop hijacking our definitions that have been in existence since the 1990s.

If you claim that you can choose your kintype, consciously or subconsciously, then you are not Otherkin. Identifying WITH non-human creatures/fictional characters/creatures is not Otherkinity. If you feel that you have a strong connection WITH something non-human or something from fiction, then consider labels like otherhearted or fictionhearted.
