Out of curiosity, are you okay with regular not-nounself neopronouns? You know, the ones that actually follow the rules of English? I was just curious because I read your about and it said you don’t like “nounself neopronouns,” and I got confused. In any case, your blog is fantastic and I think you’re awesome and intelligent. Thanks! -a curious dragon
The pronouns I’m comfortable using for people for now, are he, she, and singular ‘they’. I think its important for our language to have a pronoun that can denote non-binary people, or simply someone of ambiguous gender, etc. (This is really important in writing fiction for instance, as well as for respecting people’s identities!).
I don’t tend to use xe/xir etc because they don’t fit comfortably in the language, but if it was really important to someone that xe/xir be used for them instead of they, I would make an effort.
The reason I don’t support nounself neo-pronouns is because pronouns are meant to give us a very basic understanding of a person as a large category. For more specific nuanced ways to refer to people we have names and adjectives. I think at maximum we should have 3-4 different types of pronouns to refer to people, and that’s it.
