You can be an atheist and believe that angels/god exist. Specifically, you can believe that the -entity- of ‘god’ exists, but not believe in the ‘divinity’ of that entity. Being atheist necessitates that you don’t believe in ‘higher powers’, but doesn’t explicitly mean that you don’t believe in spiritual entities. I could say YHWH is real, but not agree that he is [a] god. If I refuse the ‘godhood’ of all entities, this would still qualify as atheism.
