Hey, so..I’ve never understood kin at all until recently. I started playing a game and I feel very intensely for a character. Not that they are even my favourite which is likely due to my own feelings towards myself. But when I try to read fics of her, I feel like someone is writing about me and feel uncomfortable. Everything about them feels like me, like we’re one or connected. But I’m not a spiritual person, and I’m not sure I believe in souls. Do you think I could still count as fictionkin?

People believe in fictionkin in many different ways. Some people who don’t believe in spirits or souls believe fictionkin from a purely psychological perspective.

I and many other kin believe heavily in a spiritual/multiversal aspect of fictionkin. However, being kin is a purely internal experience, and entirely relates to how you perceive yourself, and how you perceive the world from inside yourself. So, while minus the spiritual component I might be more inclined to call you fiction-hearted, there is absolutely no problem understanding yourself as fictionkin, and telling other you are fictionkin

If you believe that you in some way experienced the life of a fictional character, and consider that character as a real part of yourself so far that you are comfortable saying “that was me” then you are fictionkin, no matter whether you are spiritual or not.
