Why do you take it as a personal attack when other people explain their being otherkin as psychological? Like, you realize a person can think it’s psychological for them without invalidating your belief that it is spiritual for you, right? Like, not everyone’s experience comes from the same origin. Just because one person thinks their experience is the result of neurodiversity, doesn’t mean that they’re telling you that your magical experiences are “all in your head.”

Like, not everyone’s experience comes from the same origin.

That’s right. Not everyone’s experience is from the same origin. Which makes it (when the origins are different enough) A DIFFERENT EXPERIENCE. WHICH NEEDS A DIFFERENT WORD. NOT THE SAME THING.

Here are my final feelings on the matter:

  • First, believing you are kin psychologically rather than spiritually is different than saying that you are kin because of mental illness. I fully accept kin who do not believe in souls, but believe they are mentally their kintype. Psychological =/= mental illness.
  • By saying you are kin because of mental illness, you are making being kin a symptom of mental illness which could be removed with treatment.
  • Accusations that kin beliefs stem from mental illness have been used to discredit and invalidate kin experiences for decades.
  • Real kin do not chose their kin types or decide to be kin
  • If you are kin, using your identity as a defense mechanism is okay.
  • Real fictionkin do not believe that fictionkin is a delusion
  • If you believe fictionkin is a delusion then you disbelieve fictionkin
  • Saying that people who are delusional about being fictionkin should be grouped with people who sincerely believe they are fictionkin, is like saying that people who are delusional about being US Senators should be allowed in the Senate.
