Here’s the simplest way I have to explain it fully to someone who’s never heard of it. @iggysfool

An otherkin or fictionkin is someone who has discovered through self-reflection and personal experiences that they are mentally or spiritually a non-human creature or a person from another world who is portrayed as a character in our world’s fiction.

Experiences kin have that lead them to their beliefs include visions, image dysphoria, seemingly physical sensations, and feelings of loss or homesickness.

Being an otherkin or fictionkin is a primarily internal experience, and it does not mean that they think they are physically non-human, or that they want to change their body in any way to match their identity. It is a belief developed to describe the way their mind works and/or a personal spirituality.
