is there a difference between being kin w a character and iding as a character? and is itpossible to see alot of yourself in a chara, personality wise or appearence wise but not enough to be kin w them?

It is absolutely possible to see a lot of yourself in a character and not be kin with them at all. Most people who identify with a character, or see parts of themselves in a character are not kin. Its generally perfectly normal to feel empathy for and connection with fictional characters. Good writers strive to create a connection between their characters and their readers.

Its also possible to be fiction-hearted/synpath with a character, which is a stronger than normal connection to a character that isn’t quite being kin. Kin believe they ARE their kintype in a real spiritual or mental way. Its an involuntary part of our total identity.

Right now some people are using the term “IDing as” to mean being connected to a character in a way that is not kin, but some kin are also using the term “ID” to denote their strongest-felt kintype, so there’s a lot of confusion. I personally think its best if “IDing as” is used as a non-kin label.
